Okay, so Argentina lost the finales of the World Cup, but it is the winner of the world's widest avenue, and that has to count for something. The avenida in question is 9 de Julio in Buenos Aires, which honors Argentina's Independence Day, July 9, 1816. While the avenue is only .62 miles long, one city block, it has seven lanes in each direction, and is paralleled on both sides by two-laned streets, so essentially 18 lanes! The most prominent feature in the streetscape is the Obelisco de Buenos Aires in the Plaza de la Rep├║blica.
