84 Landscape Architect and Specifier News I n f o r m a t i o n R e q u e s t # 5 3 6 'Devil's Ivy' (Epipremnum aureum), 'Bishop's Hat' (Epimedium, aka barrenwort), and Tradescantia 'Red Grape' (Zebrina pendula, aka spiderwort) are among the basic tropical plantings for the green wall. Burger, Fries and a Side of Green Wall The Brome Burgers & Shakes on Michigan Ave. in Dearborn, Michigan, serves its customers what they want to eat, but in a modern, open, natural light-filled restaurant. The architect (Hallarsan Group) preserved the cedar trusses of the original 15-foot-high ceilings. That architecture, plus the 309 sq. ft. green wall (LiveWall) sets the restaurant apart from the usual burger dens. The green wall is divided in two sections, each 16' x 9'10", with a total of 168 LiveWall modular planters, which contain inserts planted with a mix of six tropical plants that thrive indoors. Precisely metered spray nozzles deliver irrigation to the wall plants. Interior green walls help purify and humidify the air, reduce volatile organic compounds and generally make for happier customers and employees. Bell's Landscape Services installed and maintains the wall. The wall won a Gold Award for Creative Landscape-Green Initiatives from the Michigan Green Industry Association. SolarOne Solutions, Inc.
