RVE was retained by the County of Essex for landscape architectural, engineering and inspection services in the construction of a new playground at Brookdale Park. Working closely with the Park Conservancy Group, RVE designed a state-of-the-art facility that incorporates the historical components of the site with the desires of the local residents. A key component to the success of the project was early public outreach and involvement. The design of a nature-themed playground consisted of over 17,000 square feet of poured-in-place rubber surfacing. Washington Street Mall Cape May, N.J. RVE prepared a conceptual design plan for the three-block pedestrian mall located at the end of Washington Street. This plan was based on meetings with project stakeholders and required attention to the needs of merchants, tourists and residents. Careful consideration of the community's historic character was included. The firm developed full construction documents and provided construction management services. The space needed to provide additional seating for outdoor dining without hindering the enormous flow of pedestrian traffic. High quality materials were selected, including granite curbs, brick sidewalks, bluestone cobble, ornamental pedestrian lighting, and two water features.
