October 2018 115 Cumberland Woods Village Town of McCandless, Pa. Cumberland Woods Village is one of the many UPMC Senior Living Communities that Fahringer, McCarty, Grey has had the pleasure of working on; in this case managing it from conceptual design through construction completion. Tucked within the typical rolling landscape of Allegheny County, numerous stormwater gardens were incorporated to mitigate stormwater runoff throughout the community. A lush rooftop garden complete with walking paths for the residents sits on top of a below grade parking deck. Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve Latrobe, Pa. Fahringer, McCarty, Grey was approached by the Arnold Palmer Group to aid in the design and implementation of a nature center/ reserve that would be created to honor the environmental advocacy legacy left by Mr. Palmer's late wife Winnie. The keystone to this facility is the relocated barn that was donated by St. Vincent College and completely transformed to become the Environmental Learning Barn. The placement of this structure was chosen by Fahringer, McCarty, Grey staff walking the entire 50-acre parcel to determine the ideal location. Next came the design and layout of over 2 miles of trails and acres of native plantings. Much of the available land was left untouched to allow nature to do what it does best.
