October 2018 125 Bartram's Carr Garden Restoration Philadelphia, Pa. Above: Bartram's Garden is the nation's oldest living botanical garden founded by America's first botanist, John Bartram. Ground Reconsidered designed a restoration of the historic Carr Garden, an early 19th Century public exhibition space that featured newly imported Asian plant species. The restoration enhances the garden's beauty and historic accuracy, reinterpreting it as it was during its peak period when John Bartram's granddaughter Ann Bartram Carr was in residence. During the redesign process, special attention was paid to the selection of historically accurate materials that meet today's standards for accessibility and longevity. Below: Working with Pelli Clarke Pelli and BLT Architects, Ground Reconsidered designed the landscape associated with FMC Tower at Cira Centre South. The site acts as a gateway to West Philadelphia on the west bank of the Schuylkill River. The entry plaza, raised a few feet above the city sidewalk, offers views across the river to Center City, Philadelphia. The 28th floor amenity terrace features a fire pit and a series of intimate seating areas within a planted green roof. PHOTO CREDIT: GROUND RECONSIDERED, INC.
