the centennial year, two-term trustee, and national vice president of membership. Kelly states, "I have run for president three times, with success this past year. I am now completing my year as president-elect." His Goals for His Term Kelly's first objective is to build on the momentum created by our society. "I would like to continue the positive trajectory that we have maintained in advocacy, both local and national, in diversity and inclusion into our profession. I want to encourage our members to grow our number, and to talk about what we do so very right as professionals in a challenging and ever changing environment," Kelly tells LASN. The Model Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance (MWELO) targets the single largest area of urban water use, landscape irrigation, and is asking designers and operators to re-think the status quo. ASLA Northern California Promotes MWELO Workshop The Northern California Chapter of the ASLA is encouraging its members to attend a free, daylong workshop on how to comply with the Model Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance. MWELO and the New Normal for California Landscapes, which was developed through a partnership between StopWaste and PG&E, will give an expansive look at the ordinance and will cover several design strategies that meet the standard. Attendees will hear presentations on water budget calculations, irrigation best practices, composting and low water plant selection. The training will also include tips from a MWELO code reviewer and hands-on activities in which participants apply concepts and receive feedback. The session will end with a Q&A panel. MWELO and the New Normal for California Landscape will be held on November 28 at the Pacific Energy Center in San Francisco. The workshop is also available by webinar.
