The City of Allentown contracted with YSM to master plan the city's treasured Cedar Creek Parkway. The 109-acre park, located in the outskirts of the downtown area, is a natural buffer to the high quality Cedar Creek that traverses the park. The master plan guided a phase I improvement plan which renovated the Historic Rose Garden area and established a new destination playground. The playground is designed to accommodate children with special needs. Improvements to the rose garden included a series of accessible pathways through the gardens and a stone arbor, creating an attractive setting for weddings and photography. The walkways unified the garden areas and connect to the park's trail network. Springettsbury Township Park Playground York County, Pa. The master plan, completed by YSM in 1998, set the vision to renovate and unify an existing community park to create a recreation destination with amenities and features for the entire community. YSM was the prime consultant for the first two development phases and provided design, bidding and construction phase services. This third phase of construction replaced the park's only playground area. The new playground built upon the previous "castle" theme. Circular stone seat walls and curbing were used to define areas representing castle turrets. Colorful safety surfacing suggests water lapping against castle walls. Playground structures, pavement design and site amenities all played on the medieval theme.
