At the 2018 Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute annual meeting, ICPI initiated a pilot Boot Camp to train students with limited experience on how to work in the interlocking concrete pavement industry. The two-day pilot Boot Camp took place at Atlas Outdoor in Burton, Mich. on August 20 – 21. During the pilot course, Frank Bourque instructed five beginner students with the installation of interlocking concrete pavements for a patio. ICPI hopes that this program will expand across the country. The Hardscape North America (HNA) trade show, produced by the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute and held Oct. 17-19 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, welcomed 50 new exhibitors in 2018. The co-location with GIE+EXPO totaled 1,000 exhibits - indoors and out - and provided HNA exhibitors exposure to over 12,000 landscape and hardscape professionals. The total participation in HNA and GIE+EXPO was 24,796 - a 3% increase over 2017. The Pre-Show Installer Course registrations saw a 14% increase over 2017. And the HNA awards, which were presented on Oct. 18, drew a record number of entries (155). The winning entries are available to view at http://bit.ly/2018HNAawards . National Concrete Masonry Association NCMA is the national trade association representing the producers and suppliers of concrete masonry products, including c o n c r e t e b l o c k , manufactured stone veneer, segmental retaining walls and articulating concrete block. As an endorsing association of the Hardscape North America show, NCMA exhibited there as well as provided SRW Installer education programs. NCMA staff was on hand to provide technical information to thousands of attendees, promote the benefits of hardscape systems and membership. More than 350 NCMA members and industry partners gathered in Chicago on August 1 to celebrate the association's rich 100-year history. The evening gala event included honoring all the companies and individuals who helped shape the concrete masonry and hardscape industry into what it is today. The ICON EXPO 2018: Machinery & Equipment Show was attended by 1,100 people and featured 25,000 square feet of exhibits and 24 hours of education. The show will be held again in 2021.
