ASLA St. Louis Chapter Profile: ASLA St. Louis promotes the development education and awareness of the landscape architecture profession in the greater St. Louis area, which is comprised of the eastern half of Missouri. By advocating for the profession through various activities we support the professional integrity of our members. As 2018 comes to a close, it has been a very productive and rewarding year for the St. Louis ASLA Chapter. New events, new programs, and new members continued to expand and diversify an already active chapter. We started the year with our Annual Design Awards celebration in early February. Our second year, after expanding our awards process to be more encompassing of the practice of local landscape architects, resulted in more award submittals and a wider variety of project types and sizes. This year the chapter bestowed the exclusive Landmark Design Award to Tower Grove Park, a Victorian era park on the National Register of Historic Places nestled in the heart of the city; and awarded the Student Award of Excellence to "The One Tree Project," which also won the National Award of Excellence from ASLA National in October. Spring found chapter Trustee Scott Emmelkamp, President Cory Murner, and President-Elect Derek Don advocating for the profession on a local level in Jefferson City, Missouri and at a national level in Washington, D.C. The spring also brought many sponsored events including the continuation of our ongoing Gateway Cinema Series, a film series exploring the human effect on our physical, cultural, and social environments, and a photo contest celebrating World Landscape Architecture Month. Left & Above: The inaugural ASLA St Louis / Gateway Greening Quiztoberfest Trivia Night Event was held on November 10th at The DEN downtown St. Louis. The event brought together over 150 participants and volunteers from across the city to raise funds in excess of $8,000 to support Gateway Greening and fund the newly established ASLA St. Louis Emerging Professionals Scholarship. The night included not only trivia, but also a raffle and silent auction with prizes that included a Full Irrigation & F/X CAD License from Land F/X! The night culminated with the announcement that our very own SWT Design had garnered the most points; taking home the Grand Prize!
