technology (continued from page 18) This is an example of plant massings with the dropped overlap feature for plants in masses and rows. Plant symbols can be aligned along a predrawn line in two different rotations, along the line, or horizontally to the line. Vectorworks 2013 includes improved navigation speeds, so panning and zooming in either 2D or 3D is significantly faster. Other improvements include Clip Cube, which makes viewing isolated parts of a larger model easier, so you can work on specific areas without interfering with surrounding elements. Also, check out the rendering application addition— Renderworks, photorealistic textures from one of the highest quality texture libraries (by Arroway Textures). Anything from wood veneers and concrete to flooring, stone, tile and other construction materials are available. Renderers will appreciate the 'Physical Sun' and 'Sky' features, which provide more realistic backgrounds, with "natural" lighting that automatically responds to a site's location, time of year and time of day. My recommendation to anyone considering a change in software, versus an upgrade, is to take a serious look at Vectorworks as a complete computer graphics package. Its developer, Nemetschek Vectorworks, is customer support-friendly, offers a free trial version and provides numerous educational webinars and guides. Visit www.vectorworks.net for more information.
