Liberty Plaza, Atlanta, Georgia Above & Left: Designs for a public space adjacent to the 125-year-old statehouse have been formulated for more than 100 years. The design called for a central green space to accommodate up to 3,000 people. A stage and terraced seating surround the gathering space. Trees around the plaza provide shade and a barrier to traffic. Streets were rerouted and sidewalks added. All the steel from the old parking structure was reused, and the concrete crushed for backfill material. Mercer University – Cruz Plaza, Macon, Georgia Bottom, Left and Right: For the renovation of Cruz Plaza the role of the landscape architect was to design a pedestrian-oriented campus center. HGOR worked closely with the civil engineer and MEP engineer to ensure that the project achieved long- term infrastructure goals. HGOR was also the prime designer for the matching 30-foot gateway water walls, campus monuments and the relocation of the bear sculpture. 104 Landscape Architect and Specifier News HGOR (Continued from page 103)
