October 2016 93 Alamance Regional Medical Center Burlington, North Carolina Above: The Employee and Healing Garden at Alamance Regional Medical Center provides a comforting respite for employees, patients and visitors to the Cone Health Hospital. The wetlands were enhanced by using recycled pavers, seating areas and native plants. The dining patio was created with salt finish concrete, timeless site furniture and a sound-buffering water wall. The garden has a sandblasted colored concrete spine leading through all of the rooms of the garden. Johnson Habitat Park, Denver, Colorado Middle: Johnson-Habitat Park is the outcome of intensely collaborative work between the design team, the city and county of Denver, the Greenway Foundation, The Trust for Public Land, the community and many nonprofit organizations. The park project goal was to create a premier environmental education center directly adjacent to Denver's South Platte River. Features include an outdoor classroom; fire ring; overlook plaza; two river access platforms for boats and fishing; trailhead rest areas; interpretive signage; and soft surface trails that connect with the improved hard surfaced regional South Platte River Trail that traverses the park. Oklahoma City Whitewater Park, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Bottom Right: DHM Design is the landscape architect for the design of the Oklahoma City Whitewater Park, part of an ongoing downtown economic development effort that has revitalized the city's riverfront and attracted the national office of USA Canoe Kayak. The $16 million park project will feature manmade pumped channels that create whitewater for paddlers of all abilities. As a city facility and associated with the Oklahoma River Boathouse District, the park will provide water-based family recreation and host national and international paddling events. p and international paddling events. g and international paddling events.
