86 Landscape Architect and Specifier News Sixth Annual National Deck Competition The 2016 National Deck Competition, put on by the North American Deck & Railing Association, selected 15 categories of first place awards, along with 2nd and 3rd place category deck awards. ( ). Overall First Place Winner (top left) Category: Alternative Deck Over $50K, constructed by Paradisaic Creative Decks, Bowmanville, Ontario. Paradisaic won four awards in the Sixth Annual National Deck Competition. The deck showcases Trex 'Transcend' decking in 'Gravel Path,' a low-luster gray tone with realistic wood graining. The 450-square-foot deck incorporated a fully-appointed outdoor kitchen, lounge area and dining nook, along with curved beams and stairs. "We pride ourselves on delivering distinctive deck designs that break free from the traditional 'boxy' look of many backyard decks," said Benjamin Shelley, president and owner of Paradisaic Creative Decks. First Place Wood Deck $25K – $50K (bottom left) Category: Wood Deck $25K – $50K, constructed by DeckRemodelers LLC, Sparta, N.J. The deck is made of ipe, a Brazilian walnut.
