An existing wastewater pump station was upgraded to accommodate the additional wastewater load generated from the softball complex. As the project neared completion, tournaments from across the country were scheduled to play at The Summit of Softball. In a 4-year period, over $40 million was put back into the surrounding Chattanooga area economy in the form of filled hotel rooms and restaurant seats. The first event, the National Softball Association's Eastern World Series, drew 232 teams and an estimated $3.6 million in visitor spending. As later reported in The New York Times, Mayor Ron Littlefield said income from sales and hotel taxes was "a real payback." The Summit of Softball continues to host various tournaments every year that include local adult leagues as well as out-of-state competition. In 2017, as the Chattanooga Times Free Press reported, the complex along with nearby Warner Park ran at peak efficiency for the USA Softball 14-under girls' fast pitch national tournament, where 128 total teams convened on the Chattanooga area. It is estimated that economic impact exceeded $2 million when this national tournament ended – a home run for Chattanooga!
