Miramar Wholesale Nurseries in San Diego is a 170-acre wholesale operation with a commercial landscape center and a team of horticulturists. Village Nurseries Acquires Miramar Wholesale Nurseries Village Nurseries Wholesale, a specialty grower for landscape professionals, announced the purchase of Miramar Wholesale Nurseries in San Diego, Calif. The acquisition is one of the largest in the nursery business in California in many years. Village Nurseries expects the purchase to add $11-12 million to its sales in 2014.The Miramar nursery will give Village Nurseries its first super center, about twice the size of its other four California specialty landscape centers. The acquisition expands Village Nurseries' growing acreage by 24 percent, from 700 acres to 870 acres. "[It will] meet the needs of a resurgent real estate market in which landscape architects and designers will be demanding more plantings, and the retail segment will be demanding greater variety for home gardens," said David House, CEO of Village Nurseries. Village Nurseries, founded in 1976, has major wholesale sales offices in Orange and Sacramento, Calif., serving markets throughout the western U.S., and partners with growers like Monrovia, Anthony Tesselaar International and Sunset Western Garden Collection. 2013 ASLA Class of Fellows Susannah Drake, ASLA, is one of 33 members of the newly elected 2013 ASLA Class of Fellows. She is a principal with dlandstudio architecture + landscape architecture pllc in Brooklyn. Drake was elected to the 2013 ASLA Class of Fellows in the category of leadership and management. She is a trustee of the Van Alen Institute, former president and trustee of the New York Chapter of the ASLA, urban design professor at Cooper Union, and associate of the Cooper Union Institute for Sustainable Design. LASN will feature the entire 2013 ASLA Class of Fellows in its November ASLA Show Issue. The American Society of Landscape Architects has selected 33 members to the 2013 Class of Fellows. The honorees will be inducted into the ASLA Council of Fellows during the annual ASLA Meeting & Expo, Sunday, Nov. 17 at the Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel. Fellows are recognized for their contributions to the landscape architecture profession under one of three rubrics: works, leadership and management, and knowledge and service. The designation of Fellow is conferred for exceptional accomplishments over a sustained period of time. To be eligible for this recognition, a person must be full members of ASLA in good standing for at least 10 years, and recommended to the Council of Fellows by the executive committee of their local chapter, the executive committee of ASLA or the executive committee of the Council of Fellows.
