volume 28 number 10 features 40 Helen Diller Playground, San Francisco In March, San Francisco's 14-acre Mission Dolores Park became the new home to the Helen Diller Playground, an urban play area filled with customized features that hundreds of local children, school groups and parents now use on a daily basis. —Steven Kirn, TimberForm 48 40 Deicke Park Discovery Zone In developing the Deicke Discovery Zone the Huntley Park District made the commitment to create a "play for all" playground, placing a high priority on correcting the imbalances in recreation on behalf of children with disabilities. —Stephen Kelly, editor 56 Centennial Center Park In August 2012, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper led a crowd of hundreds at the new Center Park in Centennial to welcome home the Colorado Olympians. Centennial Center Park opened in April as the first municipal park in Centennial, a community incorporated on Feb. 7, 2001 just southeast of Denver. —Axel Bishop, PLA, ASLA, Design Concepts, CLA, Inc. 48 56 64 Mount Greenwood Park, Chicago: The Artful Playground Mount Greenwood Park, on the southwest side of Chicago, is home to one of six therapeutic programs offered by the Chicago Park District that brings together children and adults of all skill levels and abilities. The 104-acre Rockwell Park was the first large property set aside for recreational development in Bristol. The park was originally designed by Boston landscape architect Sheffield Arnold, and constructed from 1914 to 1920.
